VENEERS

improve the look of your teeth

Both a practical and a cosmetic dental choice

Usually made from very slim pieces of porcelain, although sometimes made with other materials such as resin composite, they cover the surface of a tooth. Veneers improve the look of teeth, helping with discoloration and poorly shaped teeth, as well as helping to repair chipped or worn down teeth.

Purpose of Dental Veneers

Veneers serve a mostly cosmetic purpose, although they also help with damaged teeth. A veneer can cover a discolored tooth, which might have been stained due to diet, root canal treatment, resin fillings, and other causes.  They help with a range of cosmetic issues to get you your smile back.

Advantages of Veneers

Veneers are excellent for offering a natural appearance because the porcelain can easily be matched to the natural color of the other teeth. Unlike crowns, veneers don’t usually require a lot of shaping for the tooth before they can be applied. This is good for people who want to keep as much of the existing tooth as possible.

Decide if veneers are the best option

Before you get veneers, you will discuss with Dr. Delafraz what your goals are. You need to know what you want to achieve.

Fitting Veneers

To help determine if your teeth are suitable for veneers, impressions and possibly X-rays can be taken. To apply a veneer, a small amount of enamel needs to be removed from the surface of the tooth.

  • An impression of the tooth is set to a dental technician to create the veneer.
  • Before it is permanently bonded to the tooth, your dentist checks to see if it fits and looks natural.

Alternatives to Dental Veneers

Sometimes it might be suitable to have a crown or bonding instead.

  • Bondings offer a lighter option for those who don’t want to change the shape of their tooth much.
  • Crowns can be the next step up when a veneer doesn’t do the job.
